October 29, 30, 31, Tobago
Took a 2 ½ hour fast ferry ride to Tobago. Cost 10 Canadian (or US) each way. Really enjoying the fact tht the Canadian dollar is on par or stronger than the US $. My guest house in POS booked me into the Rainbow Resort in Crown point/pigeon point/Store Bay. Cost $3000 TT Dollars ($50 Canadian). It had air conditioning, full kitchen and was 5 minutes from some of the best beaches on the island.
I have been to many sun/beach resorts in Mexico, Hawaii, Zanzibar and elsewhere and none are a wonderful as Tobago (or as in-expensive). Absolutely recommend it and the place I stayed (Goggle Rainbow Resort and Tobago to get more details).
Met two kindly older Swedes at the ferry landing (both named Hans). They drove me to my hotel in their car. They even waited for me to get my tickets for the return trip; such kind people.
Went snorkeling in very warm water. Saw many colour fish; what was unique was that many were larger and colourful (30 CM plus). It was so neat that when I when in the water I was not at all frightened or anxious; so unlike when I was in the Galapagos or Zanzibar.
Found an internet café and laundromat; was able to do some blogging and complete cleaning of my sweated out cloth from the jungle. I was getting sick and tired of my own smell.
Got a bit of a sunburn, what joy to be able to be still long enough to get burnt. Been traveling with sun lotion in my bags for months, but I left the lotion behind with some of my bags at the guest house in POS. Had to buy more; more luggage and extra weight (will have to give it away to someone on my Venezuela trip. My portable world weights about 25 K (55 pounds all in)!!
It is interesting to note that both Guyana and Trinidad/Tobago allegedly are English specking, I cannot for the life of me understand what they are saying, though we all read the same text and newspapers.
Got back to POS in the mid afternoon of Wednesday. Walked back to the guest house as I could not flag down a taxi. Looking very forward to the next group travel experience in Venezuela. There for 15 days and than immediately on to Argentina. Have learned that doing your own arranging and planning is not so difficult, but it is lonely Fortunate that TT is English specking. Will try it again in Uruguay in late November where English is not the local tongue. Should be OK as Montevideo is a large city with reasonable tourist infrastructure.
