Short flight norht (1 hour), now my pilgrimage offically starts. Hotel is in the Copacabana part of Rio, about a 15 minute walk to the beach. Got in at 5:00 PM and did a quick walk to Copacabana beach. It was getting late so no one was on the beach, but the white sand and wide expanse was impressive. Met my travel mates at 6:30. My fellow pilgrims are: Allison - 23 - Scottish - just finished law school; Heather - 22- Scotish - just finished vet school; Matthew - 30 - Londoner - finished med school but decided to become a financial analyst in the City instead and Helieo - 30 - Perivian - our guide. Average age on all of us is 32; however I'm old enought to be their father. Looks like a nice group and with only 4 guests we should be able to be very flexible.
Rio, I hate to admit is more beautiful than Vancouver. The beaches and mountains are absolutely spectacular. The traffic is busy and very dangerous for pedestrians, got caugth in some very tense situations in the middle of the street within the first 30 minutes of walking about.
On Wednesday morning got up early and took a cvab to both Sugar Loaf mountain (cable car to the top) and the mountain behind the city with the status of Christ on it (called Christ the Redeemer mount). Was able to mediate under a table at the back of the statute. Was special as June 27 was Lorna and my 15 wedding anniversairy; planned the day to spend it quitely at this statute, found good peace and connections with Lorna. Hopefully you will be able to see the photos I took, they speech for themself. An absolutely unbelievable view. Only had the morning as we left for Ilha Grande at 1.
Oh, so far I know I forgot one sandal. Not bad.
