Villa Baldasseroni

Text written in: English

Villa Baldasseroni is situated just between the small villages of San Pancrazio and Lucignano in the Montespertoli region of Tuscany.  They were expecting us, so the gates were open and we came on in... drove up the picturesque gravel path and stopped in front of the most beautiful jasmine-covered villa, where we were greeted by our hostess Alessandra.  When we stepped out of the car, we were overwhelmed by the fragrance - from the blooming jasmine covering the front facade of the villa to the lemon blossoms and the rose garden... I just wish a camera could capture scent!

We met Michael, our host, who was coming up out of the rose garden, roses in hand.  He greeted us each with a kiss and went off to deal with some business.  Alessandra proceeded to introduce us to Villa Baldasseroni and to Tuscany itself.  She showed us our apartment, complete with sweeping views of the Tuscan hillsides, rose garden in the foreground. The villa has been in existence for 1,500 years and was originally a monastery.  It has always been in the Baldasseroni family.  Now, Alessandra and her sisters own it.

Our sitting room was in the corner of the villa, with windows opening out onto the jasmine in one direction and the rose garden in the other direction. There was also a complete kitchen and dining area.  There were two single bedrooms - one of which was mine - and a large master bedroom with a double bed.  The ceiling in the master (which was Kef's room) was frescoed, as apparently were the walls at one time.

This is the kind of place that you only imagine exists - in movies and fairy tales.  I like to write and I like to try to capture the feel of a place on paper, but this place was beyond my ability to capture... and the photos don't do it justice either.  You'll just have to go there and experience it for yourself!
