Louise and Stephen very kindly lent me their car and I headed off on a wee two day road trip to Taupo.. I actually headed for Rotorua first but it was a bit of a wash out so headed off early to Taupo. It's beautiful here and I’m so glad I came down to spend more time here. I'm staying in a lovely hostel near the lake. This morning I headed over to an adrenalin ropes course called Rock'n Ropes.. I swear I have never been so petrified in my life. It was absolutely brilliant. First of all I had to climb up 10 meters high on a large wooden log/poll using small metal pegs for grip.. you do this for everyone (higher each time). For the first one I had to shimmy myself sideways across a wire rope.. for about 20 meters, the second one was similar but I had to walk straight across, the third was a wooden bridge with nothing to hold onto, the fourth was a bloomin log.. I thought there was no way I was getting across it.. and as if that wasn't bad enough, after getting across, they made me walk backwards all the way!!!! I swear.. the bastards (sorry gran). The next one nearly had me bringing up my banana and oatmeal.. I had to climb yet another terrifyingly high log, then somehow stand on top of the end of it (I’m about 15 meters high in the air - nothing to hold onto) then I had to leap into thin air and grab hold of a trapeze.. I think it was around this time that I began to remind myself I was actually paying to do this. The final one was by far the worst and I still haven't gotten over it.. I was 16 meters up high on a platform where I was attached to a rope I had to jump off this platform go hurtling towards the ground before the rope I was attached to became taught and pulled me at about 30 miles an hour through the air. Ok.. I totally can't explain it, but I nearly died. Before I leapt off I was so scared that I just kept mumbling and trying to control my breathing (Chris the guide was laughing at me), apparently I was saying something about never ever ever ever in my life will I ever bungee. Afterwards the guy told me that most people find it worse that bungee jumping or skydiving.. I'll have no problems for the rest of my time in New Zealand then! After my terrifying ordeal I decided to take some time out and hiked to the beautiful Huka Falls.. I definitely picked the right day.. it was glorious sunshine. I then headed back to to the hostel via the shops and bought ingredients for a prawn stir-fry.. yum! You get excited about these things when you've been deprived of them!
I apologise for the serious picture upload and I realise they all look the same.. but my face is so hilarious in them I had to keep them for the old memories!
