Peru - Nasca

Text written in: English

Another big trip to Nasca. Our accommodation was out of town and behind very large security gates. Food was limited but the accomodation was quite comfy.

The flights over the Nasca Lines were amazing! (a little trepidation about the size of the plane but Jose went first and didn't crash so all was ok!)

The pilot's English was limited to ¨look, look under the wing, under the wing!¨ and sure enough there they were. Very tight turns were executed! After 30 minutes of ducking and diving we'd clearly seen the most famous of them. A great experience, although not the best for Chris's stomach! But she didn't throw up!!!! She was just a bit woozy!

A quick trip to a winery to see the very primitive process of winemaking followed by Pisco tastings, some of which was extremely strong!!

The pottery museum was interesting. The Karma Sutra figurines seemed to catch our eye the most. The patterns and glazes were reproductions of ancient Incan works.

Another surreal moonscape drive found us at an ancient burial ground. Many of the tombs had been unearthed and grave robbers had taken all the treasures within. We saw mummified bodies still in the foetal position they were placed in when interred. Very interesting but also macabre.

A feast followed. A traditional Peruvian lunch similar to a Hungi at a gorgeous little family home. A ceremony preceded the unearthing of the food. Chris was the ¨Godmother¨and Jonathon (a fellow Gapper who looked just like Frodo!) was the ¨Godfather¨for the ritual. Fantastic fare!!!!!

Back to the hotel for a relax, a swim and food, to wait for the 11.00pm bus for the overnight trip to Arequipa!
