Today I took the local buses out to the underground city of Kaymakli. I picked up a guide at the ticket office & we had the whole place to ourselves. This place was amazing. There are 8 levels but only 5 levels are open to the public, that go underground 40 metres plus. A labyrinth of rooms, stairs and tunnels and secret passages. My guide painted a fantastic picture of what life would have been like for the early christians who in times of war would use the underground city to protect themselves from their invading enemies. I caught the bus back to Ucisar and walked through pidgeon valley back to Goreme. A 3 hour plus walk through a valley with amazing rock formations and rock cut caves in the sides of the cliffs. This place was just breathtaking!!! I had the place all to myself except for 2 wild dogs who blocked my path at one stage and I had to navigate a way around them!! Amazing place!!
