Surfers Paradise

Arrived in Surfers at teatime after taking a coastal drive from Coolangatta, stopping off at Burleigh heads and Palm beach for a quick surf. The weather was amazing, far too hot for moi! (God knows what i'll do when summer arrives!) We were instantly shocked by the high raised buildings and the city esq feel to surfers. Considering Byron and Surfers are explored by similar people and are reviewed in lonely planet in a similar light, they are so very different from one another. Byron bay is much more chilled out and relaxed. Surfers is comparable to Orlando, with street names and beaches named after areas in Florida, there is a seaworld, movie world and wet n wild.

Very naughty of us, i know, but we went to the overpriced Seaworld just to see where it stood when compared with the real Seaworld! We were not all that impressed. There were no killer whales, very few sharks, and only one lonely polar bear in a little box with very little ice or water!

The beach is nice but its partly shadowed by the skyline which is quite funny. We are staying in a nice caravan park on the main beach, its very cheap and packed full of backpackers every night. Tonight we are going to a dinner and stunt show on horseback. Its called Australian outback, you can check it out on the web page - it looks fab and we have had loads of good reviews from others. Three Course Dinner (steak, cocktails and a free cowboy hat.)

We are planning on staying here for a week or so, and have made arrangments to visit one of my Mam and Dads old friends 'Janet'. She seems lovely and has invited us to stay with her over the weekend.
