We suddenly decided to spend half term in Prague and so we booked flights on the internet and flew with Thompson Fly from Bournemouth and after and uneventful flight (wth no food) we landed in Prague. A lightningly fast taxi ride brought us to the Hotel Tosca. A crisp and clean hotel which was extremely HOT!
Immediately, went out to look at the town and within a mile we were in Wenceslas Square which is actually a huge rectangle. The old buildings in the centre of Prague are really big and austere. Like most world cities we were not amazed to find MacDonalds on Every Corner and Kentucky Fried Chicken in most streets. Fortunately, we found a number of excellent restaurants at extremely reasonable prices.
Our favourite 3 restaurants were:-
Many of the old houses, palaces and churches were closed to visitors so we saw the outside of many great buildings.
We saw two concerts. One was an hour of Operatic Arias on the steps of the National Museum. The Soprano was a great musician and singer and was a pleasure to listen to (especially when she walked up to the seat next to Dave and sung an aria with her head\resting on his shoulder) - The Tenor - skwarky and egotistic. Good pianist. The second was a visit to the Prague State Opera where we saw Carmen sung in French and instantaneously translated into Czech!!!!
Prague Castle was fascinating. We saw the changing of the guard and spent a long time climbing up the 287 steps to the top of the Citadel Tower.
