Beautiful Budapest after dark...

Another reason I love this city, is that it’s fantastic at night. There is so much to see, especially down by the river...the castle up on the hill, with the chain bridge lit up below is a stunning sight...shame there are quite so many anchored boats/restaurants, I couldn’t quick get one of the shots I was after!!...but heading up river is the fantastic, but ultimately depressing ‘shoe sculpture’. Iron shoes have been arranged along the water’s edge as a memorial to the many Jews who lost their lives when they were forced to jump into the Danube...very poignant, particularly the tiny children’s shoes.

The best find of the week, came from 2 sides. Rach and Lisa came across a very cool little bar down a side street, whilst Kashtie had found on the internet where ‘the place to be’ was. It turns out the bar Szimpla, which is now a very popular hang out, is the ‘big sister’ to the bar Rachel found! They are collectively known as ruin bars, as they are quite simply set up in old ruined warehouses! They have bars/kitchens in the walled sections, and most have some sort of outdoor courtyard to sit in...the first which we went to with Ben and Shula had a very South American feel, with salsa music and funky art on the walls. The bigger place seemed more geared up for students, probably more so as it’s decorated like a charity shop!!...with an eclectic mix of sofas, benches, metal garden furniture and a room just full of tv screens!! One particular group of lads we saw were singing ‘The Music Man’, but with verses such as ‘I can play the Superman...’ and ‘I can play the Spiderman!!’ I particularly like the bath sculptures, where they have turned old bath tubs into 2 chairs and an orange baby bath being hugged by a bigger bath!!...that’s my kind of random!
