Bratislava it is then...

Text written in: English

Having been warned about Bratislava's reputation for stag nights-due to Prague trying to run them out of town- I was pleasantly surprised how unspoilt the city is...but how long that'll last, who knows...

So if you're gonna go, go now!! I was a little apprehensive as i've seen 'Hostel', the horror movie set in the city, so with a sharpe eye watching out for torture warehouses, i proceded to check it out!! I didnt find anything more suspicious than a slightly dodgy rock pub, where we had to step over the blood on the way out, from the guy who had 'fallen down the stairs' and not been hit by the bouncer...!

The centre of the old town is full of beautiful old buildings, our hotel being right in the middle of a very eastern european tree lined boulevard, and as you can see from the pics, a large, white grand mansion...the best 4star in town (there are no 5stars!!) Squares and plazas, fountains and tram ways...so many things to see...the River Danube being the most well known. The venue was just over the river, over the new bridge seen in the night time shot, which has the fantastic UFO restaurant/nightclub atop the left hand tower. Its a 360oC restaurant with roof top viewing balcony of the city, with a new fusion menu which the staff were very excited to introduce to you..and i mean they introduced every bit of food, from the complimentary appetisers, starters, mains to the free take away muffins we ate the next day for breakfast!! All in all a very special and delicious night out!!

Trying to make the most of the last day..we only had a matinee show and then the get-out, so we were all done by 6pm, just in time to see sunset from the UFO bridge (before dinner), where i managed to capture my favourite photo so far in the after sunset low light, with the castle overlooking the Danube.

I could write something about work, but i dont where to start and couldnt possible put that many *****'s in the journal...if it came to a choice of dressers being young girls who speak a little English but who have NO CLUE/common sense, or the brilliant dressers in Shanghai who knew a lot, just didnt speak a word of English....i'll start learning Chinese now...

All in all, brilliant city, beautiful...throw in lunch at the UK Ambassador's house (wife is friend of a wife, etc etc!) in the posh residential area and had an excellent time!...but if i hadnt needed to work i think id have 'done' bratislava in a week, after all it is only small! But they do say good things come in small packages!

Oh and you must try the garlic soup in the bowl made of bread, a speciality and gorgeous...if u like garlic that is ;-)
