Savaii

Day 1

We were up early on purpose today so we could get the main island in time to get the boat to Savaii. I have really enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend it to everybody. Leota was not around when we left so we didn't get to say goodbye. So we jumped on the boat and got to Manono-Uta and Leota was there waiting for us with his cousin who had the longest here ever. She gave us a lift to the boat. We just got on before it left. We had to stand outside and the boat was really swaying. There were people sleeping all over the place, on seats in the isles and everywhere. Mia talked to a local girl about not liking Fiji and the local agreed. When we got to Savaii we got a car and unlike in Upolu they went through all the checks to make sure the car was safe. We were soon off and our first stop was the cash point where a guy offered me either a joint of ice (both are a problem in the young in Samoa, in fact it also has one of the highest youth suicide rates) but I said no, he said thank you and walked off...polite drug dealers. We had a look around the market and got some doughnuts. Then it was off to Tanu beach fales, it wasn't a long trip but the distance between the villages seemed massive. We passed miles of black volcanic lava flow, in some places people had started to build on it. Once we got to the palce we were given coconut drinks which no one could finish. It was a family run place and all the girls and guys had traditional tattoos which was pretty cool. I needed to check my emails so I headed down to Raci's which is the southernmost email café in the southern hemisphere. Then it was off for happy hour at the only cocktail bar on the beach where we bumped into Izzy from Manono, we also saw th guys from the chez rep. who were at virgin cove. After a few drinks it was back for tea where we met a honeymoon couple called Mike and Rachel. They were really nice and very funny. We shouldn't have told them about Hanan as he was the brunt of all jokes from then on. Then it was back to the fale to write journals as there is not much else to do on a Saturday night in Manase.

Over the pacific

Up at 4.30am to get the plane to Auckland, I gave up the pursuit of happiness and he kills coppers. There was a very long queue at the airport but we were eventually on the plane and I was asleep.
