The middle of the sea.

Text written in: English

So i woke up on the plane and saw that the tv was still on and i had missed breakfast. We were only a short way from landing in Tahiti, our transit stop. There were really awesome views out of the window of the different islands and it was a smooth landing. When we got off the plane we were hit in the face by a most awesome wall of heat, it was 6.30 am and 25 degrees!!!!! There were also three guys in grass skirts and tropical shirts playing different guitars and singing a local song of welocome.

After an hour we were stuck back on the plane for another hour and forty minutes to the cook islands. Then there it was, Rarotonga, out the left hand window. It looked just like all the pictures I had seen. I also had a bit of a worry thinking to myself what if I cant cope with the culture shock etc. but I soon got over that.

Then we flew around the island and landed in an airport smaller than the old Guernsey airport. We got off the plane into even more heat, also greated by a guy on a ukelele(?) After customs we meet our JP, bus driver, who handed me a phone to talk to Paul the hostel owner. it turns out that he didn't realise that Mia was staying as well so he did us a deal which was cool. As JP drove us to the hostel he pointed out all the different buildings such as parliment, which is a very big shed, and the king and queens house.

Soon we arrived at Rarotonga backpackers and were greated by Paul the owner, he seemed to be a nice guy and he showed us around the place. I walked out of the kitchen doors and had to stop and smile as through the coconut trees about 30 feet away from the pool was the beach and the lagoon and the reef stopping the south pacific...nice. Even better to think that some people up the road are paying ten times what we are for the same views.

As it was still 10ish we went for a wander down the road and lasted about five minutes before having to buy some fluid...it is hot here very very very very very very hot. Then we walked back to the hostel were Paul offered us a lift to town with Jane and Sarah, two girls staying in the hostel. They are both nurses from London and sound just like Pauline and Corrine.

Once we were in town we did a bit of shopping and had a really nice lunch at a small cafe. I had smoked marlin which was absolutely fantastic. There was also a bright ornage fruit that fall apart in your mouth, it really nice but I have no idea what it is.

After we got the bus back from town we went and stuck of feet in the ocean and it started raining which i'm sure wasn't really our fault. So we wnet and spoke to some of the other guests. A lot of them had been at other hostels and then came to our one so i think we made the right choice. Then we took a short walk up the road to grab some drink before making our tea and going to watch the sunset. The only trouble with that was we were having a laugh making tea and we missed it.

Then we ended up watching once were warriors with some of the guests. One of the guys was an old canadian and he gave us some tips on where to go for good snorkeling. It has been very nice having more company about as it means we won't drive each other insane as much.
