This month has very much been a time of settling in. Christmas & New year out the way has meant getting on with life and business as usual which has been an eye opener. We came here looking for a more relaxed, healthy lifestyle & time to learn new things. Thankfully it's all good. Things aren't feeling new any more and places are looking familiar which is making us feel really at home. We've both settled in to work quite happily & instead of going to the pub right after work, we've managed to hit the beach 3 or 4 times & go fora surf or play in the waves - just part of what we came here for!
New Year's Eve was spent with a pair of Dubliners - say no more!! Really, New Year's Day wasn't pretty....
A couple of weekends ago we went up the coast to the Organic River Festival - much like it sounds - lots of tie-dye & hippies getting tangled up in their dreadlocks. It was brilliant - batteries ran out on the camera though so no photo's which we're REALLy annoyed about. It was so chilled out with lots of yummy food, beer & swimming in the swimming hole in the river.
We spend a lot of time in the Wairarapa which is a over the Rimutaka range to the north of Wellington. It's wine country which is always a good thing & is always 2 or 3 degrees warmer than Wellington. Last weekend we went for an explore & found lots of caterpillars, some cows and a swimming hole - we never said we were looking for too much excitement!! It's so beautiful over there. After we came back we went to the Botanic Gardens where we listened to a band - it was clearly a very popular band by the size of the crowd, we didn't see much but we went through enough beer to make up for it.
We're feeling really at home now but that's not to say we don't miss home, especially London & of course our friends & family most of all! My sister kindly sent a picture of Gordon's wine bar which bought back some fond if hazy memories & our friend Mitch sent us a song if hiswhich took us back to Blackheath. Talking of our highly talented friends I just wanted to put the word out for people to listen to havea quick listen - please go to our mate Pete's band at www.myspace.com/subpopsundaytheband - they've recently had the honour of supporting the Kooks & his Royal Highness Jarvis Cocker as well as being an Xfm favourite. For a more mellow sound for your listening pleasure get your lugholes round this one www.myspace.com/mitchhiller - he's a very good friend with a voice that is so indescribably gorgeous.
We miss everyone loads - we are still alive so you are allowed to email!
Love Nic & Dan xxx
