okay....lets keep the scooter

Text written in: English

We woke up on my birthday in our luxurious hotel suite in a town not used to tourists. For breakfast we decided to head to Tescos and see if they had anything familiar to eat as everything in town was written in Thai and thus illegible. We still had 30 miles or so to chang mai and we had definetly left the nice country roads behind in favour of the two lane super highway. Bit of dodgy ride Thai drivers being what they are plus my driving being what it is. We made it alive without much mishap and after a few wrong turns and back tracking with arrived in the tourist district of Chang mai. We found our cheapest hostel yet in Thailand at 180 babs a night. Chang mai is a nice city with a moat going around some of it and lots and lots of temples. For my birthday I decided we wanted to see some Thai boxing so we made our plans for the night. We decided to keep the moped as its so much fun and beats walking plus its very handy for avoiding Tuk tuk drivers. In fact we took much joy when leaving the boxing when the tuk-tuks started there sales pitch only to see our helmets and mutter “uh motorbike” in annoyance.  Anyway the boxing was a good laugh, plenty of kicks to the head and two boys knocked out cold. The atmosphere was good with all the manic thais betting away at ringside but I think there were more tourists there then Thai fans. The rest of the time in Chang mai we spent zooming around the city on the moped (we already have plans to buy one) and seeing the many temples as we zooooomed by. Kim did spend a lot of time trying to coax a kitten down from a wall because she thought it was abandoned. We now think that its ok and only whining a lot. We decided to book a package deal to get into Laos simple because we couldn’t get up early enough to do it ourselves and frankly its easier sometimes, plus were running out of time as we have the full moon party deadline looming. Were not used to being in a rush but were having fun moving quickly.
