The albino water buffalo

Text written in: English

We visted this town as a little side trip while we were waiting for our visas in Bangkok. The town is famous for its bridge over the very familiar sounding River Kwai. They made a film about it. Anyway the bridge like the wooden one in the film isnt there anymore but you can walk across the remaining metal one the same POWs built which still has trains running across. In fact one did arrive while we were making our way across it nearly mowing down some dozy Thai tourists in its wake. Only for us shouting at them I don’t think they’d be alive today. There is also a graveyard in town for all the POWs that died building the bridge, quite a few.  Anyway the hostel we stayed in was quite nice with a view of the river. Plenty of noisy speed boats going up and down and surprisingly a floating disco playing pounding thai techno. Also there was quite a few cats running around for Kim to befriend. Talking about befriending cats, we went to the Tiger temple place were you can sit down and have your photo taken with Tigers. You can also pet them depending on your nerves. There was two cubs also to play with. It was a nice experince but the place was very touristy and a bit of a kip and it was nice to see them neither tied down or drugged. I personally found the albino water buffalo floating around it just as interesting. Its was a good experince though.  It was only a quick trip and then we went back to Bangkok for our India visas and then onward to Chang mai.
