fuzzy and orange

finally after almost a month in borneo we go to see their most famous resident.

the orangutans at the center have al been rehabilitated from the pet industry but get fed twice daily because they cannot forage as well as a wild orangutan would (when they learn they will hardly ever come back) so the center lets people in to see them being fed and wander around the forest.

we didnt think we would see any because people have been and seen none but we seen a pregnant one within our first 5 minuets (she was pretty hostile but hey shes pregnant) then we went along to the feeding platforms and a few were just hanging around so we managed to get quite close and they were more than happy coming right up to us.

feeding time came about and loads started apearing from the canopy, swinging in no bother whilst the recently released ones would favour the floor. the usual crew of mcaques was hanging around but they were being scared away by the keepers so they wouldnt take all the food. it was really nice to see them emerging like that and we cant wait to see if we see some in the wild.

after feeding time we went for a wander and their was a small male swinging through the trees and we sat all by ourselves to watch him, when we got back to the feeding area a really small one was hanging about and touching the people and she was posing for photos so beautiful and fuzzy. obviously she has a fair way to go before behaving like a wild one but im glad to see that previous ones have finally gone wild and are reproducing.

we are going on a jungle trip next for a few days hopefully we shall see some wild ones there.
