spent a few days in a wonderful place just outside of miri (treetops lodge for anyone whos wondering) we was sleeping in a converted longhouse on a pond with nothing to do apart from be very lazy or wander down to the deserted beach or swim in the pool (green yet ??) the food was amazing and our host was the nicest english gent you would ever find certainly recommend this place to anyone.
after all this lazing about we decided to get off our backsides and do some intrepid trekking in lambir hills national park. unlike alot of the parks in borneo this place was deserted and we managed to walk for 8 hours without seeing a single soul - apart from a very small but suspicious looking snake- a couple of hours into our walk i decided to look at my foot, and to my surprise there was a leech quite hapily stealing my blood so what does any sane person do ? i scream my head off "LEECH LEEECH " keith spun round and tried to flick off the little monster with me shaking my foot, if ever there was a time for a video camera this was it.
little did we know this was only the start of the feast and we would encounter the little beasties on every step, i actually got so used to them by the end of our walk that i got quite fond of them. keith got savaged by one and his foot wouldnt stop bleeding so we decided to sit by a stream and stick his foot in it till it stopped, it didnt despite the shrimp tryin their best to clean it for him.
despite this we had a fantastic time lambir has loads of waterfalls to swim in and plenty of tantalising monkey noises.
we decided not to go to brunei after hearing that it is alot more bother than its worth so we flew from miri to kuching on aisas answer to ryan air....
