i know it wasnt on the criteria but we thought what the heck ! we might aswell visit brazil whilst we r here, and it was well worth the visit.
we stayed 5 days in the pantanal and seeing as it took us 12 hours to reach the place it was all very well and good that we did, on the way we saw more animals in those hours than we had ever done on both of our jungle tours. it was truly amazing to see capybara and alligators just lying around not arsed that a big green jeep was coming towards them at full speed, and as darkness fell we got our first sighting of an armadillo, but me shouting anteater but meaning armadillo didnt help things and i was the only one to see it, after a while it got really dark and keith had to venture into the water to help the driver see where it got shallow so he could pass through it, keiths not ashamed but he was cacking himself and after taking a picture and seeing the red eyes of aligators surrounding him i was too, but all went well and we were assured that alligators are not vicious like crocodiles ! ha ! we made it there well after dark and went straight to bed thoughrally exhausted but happy.
whilst at the pantanal we did all sorts of things mildly organised by our guide like horse riding and pirannah fishing keith caught two but i caught a big one, and loads of safaris at all times of day. and on the day we were supposed to leave they asked us if we could stay another day for free cos they had to help the cowboys, ah sure said we nota bother! so we went off for the day to watch the cowboys round up the cows all rawhide stylee and brand them (i did ask why not paint them and they laughed at me) them one was chosen to be BBQ and it was one of those times that almost made me a veggie but thankfully he got loose and ran away and i swear i had no hand in it. but then we haulled off 3 pigs into the back of the van and seen them slaughterd later back at the farm lets just say i didnt eat meat for a while.
in total we seen 8 anteaters including the pet one at the farm, 4 armadillos one almost an ex armadillo after runing infront of the jeep, buffalo, capybara millions of aligators and countless species and numbers of birds.
the only sting in the tail was that when we finally got to the train station on the bolivian side our tour guide had not made any reservations and had left us stranded, so off we popped to get a 18 hour bus to santa cruz wasnt all bad but we definatly wont be recomending them.
only a month of south america left then back to the real world !!!
love and hugs kim and keith
