well its not that far because we have decided to fly. Santa Cruz is bloody different from anything else weve seen so far in Bolivia and its good to get out of the mountains again after so long. the city is pretty new so no real old buildings or landmarks to speak of but there is an Irish bar in the main square...and an other one by the zoo (we may have to start rating them because the irishness on offer is pretty low) they must love us over here. spent the time here trying to arrange a trip to the Pantanal the largest swamp in the world about the size of France we are told. Absolutly no chance, everything was too expensive so we decided to go on a bit of an adventure and cross the badlands into Brazil. Were taking the so called "Death Train" although every trip seems to be described as the deadliest this of most dangerous that so were not to worried. Got supplies like a bottle of vodka and a bag of sweets for Kim so we should be grand. yeah Brazil wasnt really on our plans but sure its worth the 21 hour train trip for the stamp if nothing else. So far in Santa cruz weve just walked about, commented on how many nice cars there are and of coarse went amish spotting. Crazy but true they are evertywhere, all tall and blond and wearing dungeries and , nothing like the locals. they were big cowboy hats too so there easy to spot, ive spotted 7 now and Kims on 4 so im winning, we shall try to get a sneeky pic beore we leave perhaps even visit their lair !!!
Also took in the zoo, something different i know, but they do have sloths roaming about free and we were nearly viscousily attacked by one, i got out of the way just in time i litterally only had minutes to spare. dont think he liked us petting him and he had alot of snot on his face so you knew he was mad. they also had there spider monkeys running free and even tho we spent alot of time with them in the refuge, including a few nights in the tent with one in nappies, it was good to mess around with them again. one insisted one taking Kim by the hand around the park, maybe we still smell abit of monkey.
catching train tomorrow, really looking forward to it, sure 21 hours is nothing nowadays. were coming back here so twice the much fun on the train. and we just realised we speak no portugeuse, i still remember our first day in south america with no spanish were we couldnt order a cup of coffee with milk and a slice of bread so we could go hungry on the other side.
adios Keith and Kim
