aye aye captain

Text written in: English

Our trip to iquitos started out random enough, our taxi from chachapoyas turned into a bit of drinking session when a few lads got into our taxi loaded up with a few bottles of beer, after a few pit stops for beer and alot of drinking on bumpy roads which kinda got abit messy we reached our bus stop in pedro ruiz. nicely enough one of the old men in our taxi bought us lunch and arranged our bus tickets on to tarapoto otherwise i think we'd of been there alot longer.

6 hours later we were in tarapoto and decided to get a hostal with a pool because its bloody hot there. nothing much to do in the town as well as it being palm sunday so we only stayed two nights. up early the next morning to try to get to yurimguas for our boat to iquitos. well we arrived at the taxi station at around half 9 and met up with mr steven who we had been trekking with in chachapoyas so we sat down to wait on our lift that was apparrently leaving "very soon" according to our driver.......4 hours later we were told the road was closed and eventually at three o clock we got on our way.

but not for long....one hour into our trip we reached the blockage on the road which was due to a 20 mile long road works.three hours waiting we finally got on our way and our driver thought he was michael shuamacer, belting it down the road at what felt like a 100 miles per hour , we couldnt actually check cause the speedometer wasnt working. we were making great time but had to pull in for petrol......then our car wouldnt start up again after much fiddling we was off again but he had to keep turning off the light because the alturnator wasnt working......we finally reached our destination 12 hours after starting out....we were told it took 4.

one night in a hostel and then down to the docks to book our boat down the amazon. went handy enough but were told it was leaving in 3 hours and we hadnt bought supplies. a dash into town to get breakfast and load up on food and water and then dash back out again....of corse our boat didnt leave on time but a 2 hour delay by now wasnt noticed that much. met up with another irish and english couple on the boat and hooked up our hammock for out 2 night journey to the heart of the jungle and on to the amazon river.

our boat was filled with enough animals for old mc donalds farm....cows, pigs, sheep, chicken, ducks and ....a monkey of coarse. the trip was fantastic, the views amazing and the food, well it wasnt too bad. plus i had some rum on board to help me sleep. we also helped out with a spot of babysitting, entertaining the kids on board with a magic gadets....and i have to say they defiantly preffered the beats of the prodigy to chemical brothers!

going into the jungle now for a few days to see some river dolphins and hopefully sloths
