The last of the Big 5!

Text written in: English

Left Botswana and drove into Etosha National Park in Namibia. Saw giraffes, zebras, gnus (wildebeest), gemsbok, elephants and a rhino hidden behind a bush. A lone elphant didn't like the look of the truck and charged us down the road! The following morning we saw a leopard right next to the road stalking some impala. We passed the vast Etosha Salt Pans, and saw some red hartebeest and kudu from the truck as well.

That night at the watering hole in our campsite will definitely be remembered as a highlight of the trip. Cheetahs and jackals warmed us up for the main event at around 8pm when about 7 rhinos and a dozen elephants, all with babies in tow, hung out for a drink. They stayed about a half hour and everyone watching from the rocky outcrop above was silent with awe. So we've now seen the big five: lions, leopards, elephants, water buffalo, and rhino :)
