So I am sitting here in Heathrow a bit shell shocked.. have to get readjusted to the "Western go-go-go" pace instead of the "Pole Pole" pace of Kenya... I have to seriously plan for my return there.. the last few days there were excellent and sad at the same time... I managed to visit fort Jesus which has a beautiful view of where the ocean meets the island and surrounding bay.. then walked the route that will be followed by the cross-country runners.. its just amazing.. blue sky, water and the work that is being completed to beautify the city is impressive. I had a party with all the M.O.Y.O members (Football, Basketball, Boxing people) and we invited the teachers from Bomu, some of the families I had met with there during the course of my home visits.. and some random people showed up too.. it was quite the party, drinks, cookies, candies.. and music of course!! Everyone was so nice and asking why am I leaving?? Now that I am going.. there isn't going to be a basketball coach.. the local girl hasn't come in 2 weeks.. and probably won't come for a few months. They aren't getting new people to come volunteer there till maybe May.. but usually they only get Soccer people.. so I was trying to teach Ciaran the drills.. but the girls already have laughed that he is gonna be their coach cause he doesn't really know all the rules!! The main thing I think that was accomplished was the cementing of the relationship between Bomu Teachers and M.O.Y.O. Unfortunately the cost of leveling was (alot) more then the money I was able to fundraise.. so Bokey is opening a bank account for the funds and we will try to fundraise more. We tried to bargain the guys who would do the leveling down.. but its an expensive endeavour.. the grader uses ALOT of fuel.. and the fuel cost we didn't realize was seperate from the labour/rental costs!! GRRR.. but it will be done before May for when Paige shows up with the cement. I have new ideas for helping M.O.Y.O. The organization Right to Play could send volunteers there for a year to coach that way new sports can begin there.. like volleyball.. hmm.. so many ideas....
