Nice City

Text written in: English

We stayed in Bangalore for 2 nights - but we didn't check in until midnight.  Bangalore is a nice city which has a lot of life to it.  Too bad our hotel (Ramanshree) sucked - the staff was horrible and then we had a "complementary drive" to the market.  Ok, might as well explain the Indian system here:

The Indian Marketing System : A driver will take you to a special "government shop" (there are a few but apparently they are VERY rare), usually a shop just poses as one with set prices.  With set prices they claim they won't rip you off but really they give out large commissions to who takes you there - in the rate of 30 - 40%!!  The driver or tour guide claims that these have better quality but we've seen some really shoddy handwork here and on the streets you can often find better or comparable.  Add to this that these ppl are very pushy to sell you and it's not as nice of shopping... even with no bargaining skills you will get better deals on the street simply because ppl want you to come to their small custom shop and will offer you decent prices.  The drivers we have learned will often get something for just taking you there even if you don't buy...

anyways, after our "complimentary drive" which took 1.5 hr to get to a 5 minute destination, we learned our lesson.

Oh yeah, everything is air conditioned because of the heat - i'm so thankful it's only feb... (around 30 again but seems hotter)
