Bye, bye Big Bertha. Bye, Bye, NZ

nd August - We filed up the gas & fuel tank & then said our goodbyes to Big Bertha. We caught a cab, the driver of which was from Samoa & so had a good chat with him. After checking in, we just spent most of the day wondering around Auckland city.

rd August - Not much today, just wondering around the city again. We found a lovely Mexican for tea, I think we got there just at the right time as within half an hour, people were queuing at the bar for a table, they did some lovely cocktails too : )

th August - Tom went to the post office first thing this morning & it was then that I realised he’d been hiding something from me……….he had the really nice poofy pillow : ( Today we went to the Auckland Museum. We first visited the Mummy exhibition, which explained about the animals & items buried with the person, the stages of mummification, the journey to the afterlife and, of course there was an actual mummy & her inner & outer tomb. Next we went to see the Maori Culture Show held by the museum, this was great, they showed us their game where they throw sicks to each other in all different directions, they showed us some of their weapons, they danced & then they did the haka. I tell you there were only 3 girls & 3 blokes, but it was pretty intimidating. The men show their tongue as a sign of aggression, strength & defiance, but the ladies do this by making their eyes really big, It was amazing and I really wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of any of them. We then looked around the rest of the museum & on the top floor there was a BMW touring art exhibition, where 4 BMWs had been hand painted in really wacky designs, they looked great. We caught the bus back into town, however whilst waiting, I noticed a button on the bus sign post which had no detail on what it was for. After inspecting it a number of time & trying to persuade Tom that he should press it, I gave into temptation & pressed it. A big voice came out of it & detailed every single bus for the next I don’t know how long, it went on for so long & was really quite loud that it was pretty embarrassing having to continue to sit there, while people looked at you while they waited for the traffic lights to change - I’d say it would teach me, but I doubt it : ) Once we were back in town, we went to watch Robin Williams, Licence to Wed at the cinema, which was pretty good.

th August - We finally got rid of the loud people staying here & I was looking forward to a good night sleep, but at 3am there were loads of emergency vehicle sirens going off, typical eh! Today we went to an Irish pub & had a roast, I said our mums would be pleased we were eating well & the free pint was just a bonus. We sorted out a hostel for tomorrow, chilled out & packed again, but this was for the final time in New Zealand. We’ll be sat to leaving New Zealand, it’s been an amazing experience, it’s so beautiful here & of course there’s been all the silly times too, my favourite being jumping out of the plane : )
