Flipping Fiji!

Mar 28 - Got up early with Tom as I decided I'd go & get the Dr note that the PADI instructor had requested, they had now also said they wanted one from my Dr too now.  I made a Dr appointment & headed off.  The Dr was running an hour late, so it's nice to see they appear to be the same the world over.  Everything went well but he thought it would be best to check me again on another day just to be sure.

I caught the bus into town, it was great, the bus has no windows & it's just pretty cool.  I also had to get a Mini Van which was a little scary as I ended up in one of these with just a group of men, but people had said they were safe so off I went.  When I got into town a guy just said bula (hello) to me & I said the same & we spoke as we walked down the road, after all this is meant to be the friendly place on earth! He showed me were the local market was so I thanked him & said I'd go & have a look & so he came along and ended up telling me about the different things there.  It was a this point I thought this was gonna cost me, but I was surrounded by locals & didn't want to make an unnecessary seen, and sure enough, one turn & I ended up in his shop.  He preformed a Kava cermony which is meant to be a big honour, I said I'd come back another day with Tom as he'd love it, but he said he'd do it again for him too.  That was it, I was stuck in there & ended up having to buy stuff, as I was the only person in there except him & his 5 mates & didn't feel brave enough to stand up for myself.  I even said I didn't have enough money on me so he walked down to the cash till with me!

After this I just wanted to get what I came in for & get out, but I was having trouble finding the place & so when a guy who kept asking me if I wanted a cab asked what I was looking for I thought I'd ask for the name of the shop. Surprise, surprise the shop was closed but pointed me in the direction of another shop, where him & his 6 foot mate came along.  That was it, I struggled for an hour to get rid of them before I said I had to met my friends & would get a cab.  Finally they gave up & called over a cab & then just as I was about to get in, he started offering me drugs.  I could not beleive it.

When I got back I saw Tom & the diving instructor & explained how the Dr went & then the instructor said he wouldn't teach me even with the Dr's notes.  Can you beleive it, what a horrific day!

Haven spoken to other people here I am so glad to hear that this happens to people all the time, but yet I'm still extremelly annoyed with myself for getting myself in that situation.
