London’s British Museum and Man U. vs. Arsenal

Text written in: English

Most of these pictures are from the British Museum. WOW was this place great, or what? It's cool to go and see famous paintings and sculptures, but I really like to see all the cool stuff at the British Museum. Eric and I spent a good 4-5 hours wandering around looking at all the stuff. I know we could have easily done another day or two here. Not only is it one of the coolest museums that I've ever been to, but... it's FREE!! All they ask for is a donation, and I threw in a couple of pounds for the great experience.

After the long tour of the British Museum we wandered around London a little more to kill some time. On Sunday we had to stay in London so that we could watch the Man U. vs. Arsenal game in an English pub. Let's just say that it didn't disappoint. As we were walking down to the pub we could see all the shops closing up and the employees all heading to the pub too. It was great... everyone was in there, and there were Man U. fans as well as Arsenal fans. Man U. scored pretty quick I don't even think I was done with my first Guinness. Arsenal finally scored just before halftime. The game was back and forth and then just before the end of the game... London's own team the Arsenal scored the game wining goal, and the place went nuts. Most of the people were pissed, but I had a good time watching my first "football" match over in England, and I don't think that I could have seen a better first match.

This is Russell Square Park... on our way to the British Museum The British Museum in London is one of the world's greatest museums of human history and culture. Its collections, which number more than 13 million objects from all continents, illustrate and document the story of human culture from its beginning to the present. Me outside the British Museum... crappy lighting... I almost look black n' white The Great Court The British Museum houses the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of Egyptian antiquities outside the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. More Egyptian antiquities The British Museum has this small fragment - about one-thirtieth in total - of the Great Sphinx's beard. Alabaster lion from entrance to temple of Ninurta at Nimrud, reign of Ashurnasirpal II (883-859 BCE) Some cool ass stone engravings The Rosetta Stone is a Ptolemaic era stele inscribed with the same passage of writing in two Egyptian language scripts (hieroglyphic and demotic) and in classical Greek. Comparative translation of the stone assisted in understanding many previously undecipherable examples of hieroglyphic writing. The Rosetta Stone has been exhibited in the British Museum since 1802. They had a lot of Greek ruins too. Here is the inscription and some pieces from the Parthenon Sculptures Me vs. that pimp Dionysus Moai are statues carved from compressed volcanic ash on Rapa Nui, Easter Island, Chile. The statues are all monolithic, that is, carved in one piece. These things were soooo cool... highlight of my trip to the museum. Seriously... this chick was pretty hot. The Hindu god Shiva appears as the lord of the dance, Nataraja, in a ring of fire. Garuda from Tibet acts as a guardian presence. One of the bad ass green faced dudes was lookin at me funny Here is a cool headshot of Hercules from the Library room This is an old ass globe n' I had to get a shot of America Here is a copy of the Rosetta Stone that you can touch and look at more closely. The centre of the museum was redeveloped in 2000 to become the Great Court, surrounding the original Reading Room.  (This is a combination of two pictures... the room in the center is actually round) They have all kinds of cool weapons... check out this ivory engraved crossbow from Germany around 15550 Here is a hand mortar As with all other national museums and art galleries in Britain, the Museum charges no admission fee, although charges are levied for some temporary special exhibitions. I threw in a few pounds for the great time I had. London is soooo old. Here's a building that is 50 years older than America. They don't know how to do Wings in London... gotta go to Hooters for that. They love there comic books over there... Calvin is still my favorite. I don't ever want to have some Fine Wines and Eating over at the Bung Hole We got to watch Man U. vs. Arsenal on Sunday. It was a great match with Arsenal winning at the very end with a game winning goal. Here I am enjoying a pint of Guinness while watching the football game.
