Clear skies at last - no time to waste!
Let's go have lunch at a bouchon (homestyle restaurant serving specialities of the region) - "Le Cafe des Federations" - and visit Le Vieux Lyon, the old part of town built on the slopes of a hill atop which stands the Fourviere Basilica from which a stunning view of the whole of Lyon can be admired and best enjoyed at sunset.
The two main arteries feeding the crowd into the old Lyon's best bouchons and pubs are Rue St-Jean and Rue du Boeuf. From these two roads departs a network of traboules - underground passages which link streets and in which hide beautiful secret gardens, restaurants, apartments and other architectural oddities.
Walking into these streets and using the traboules has a real treasure-hunt feel to it, which really got me excited and entertained for a couple of hours!
