Heading South

Text written in: English

It was the usual mad rush of touts, taxi and moto drivers at the station when the train arrived. Hue is about half way down the coast, situated on the banks of the Perfume River. I spent the first day walking around the old part of town through streets of Shoe shops and Hifi shops, they are really into the Kareokee here. I eventually got to the Old Citardel. The part of the town where the emperors lived. The outside wall was in pretty good shape, but a few wayward missiels seemed to have remodeled some of the builldings inside, to the ground. What was still left standing was in good repair and very clourful. Most of the moats and ponds around the Citadel seemed to be full of rubbish and over grown with weeds put had plenty of Lotaus Flowers growing though the middle of it all.

The nxet day I booked onto a boat tour down the river to visit some more temples that where out side the city. Some of them were directly on the river banks and some of them involved a moto ride in land for a few km. A nice little scam that they were trying to pull, was to ask you for a tip, the driver was thirsty and needed  drink, I resisted the temptation to buy him one.

The last temple was the most resent as the emperor was only encarserated in it in 1931. It was all built with concrete and other materials bought in from other parts of the country. This being the reason that it took longer than his time at the throne to build and cost the lives of around 1000 workers to complete. It is the nicest that I have seen, and has a mixture of Catholic crosses and Buhdists symbols as well as having a very French look about the place. The insides were heavily decorated with pottery.

That evening I managed to book my self on to a bus heading south for Bach Ma National park and then on to Hoi An.
