5th most expensive city in the world

Text written in: English

I borded the train in the evening for another 12hr overnight trip and got to Shanghai just before lunch. Its a really modern city just like any you would find in the US with up to date underground and bus transit systems. The prices were really expensive for everything, food and accommodation were at least 3 times more expensive than the other parts of China. The shopping mall that was down the road from the hostel, had everything you could possibily want, Ice Skating Rink, Cinema, Gym, Creche, English Langugae College as well as all of the designer brands, and really expensive resturants. Nanjing Shopping Street (famous shopping street in Shanghai) was 1km long with multi story malls both sides selling everything you could possibly need. The streets them selves were packed with shoppers, electric trains taking tourists from one end to the other and the police were also riding about on golf carts. Mixed into this were hundreds of persistent touts for massage parlours and people trying to sell fake bags, watches and shoes. After a while I had to come up with someways to get rid of them.

Here are my top tips for getting rid of unwanted attention-

Try to teach them English as they talk way to fast and you can't understand what it is they are trying to sell you.

Try to sell them something,

or talk a foregin languge, all these three get them very confused.

If these all fail then walk slowly till they catch you up, get them to talk lots and looking more at you and not where they are going, as soon as this is achived walk very close to a lamp post or group of people walking the other way, BANG ,everytime with out fail, it works. Harsh, but these things have to be done when they won't take NO for answer.

I had had enough of big cities in China and heard that a place called Yanshou near to Guilin, to the south, was really laid back, small town and you could even see the countryside from the middle of town, this was a great improvement. I booked my self on a plane flight for the next morning and headed up the Pearl TV and Radio Tower, tallest in Asia, for the moment at 350m high, that evening to watch the city sky line.
