Berea Christmas School, home away from home.

It dosen't seem like 12 months have past since I was here last. Same old faces doing the same thing, just like getting home from travelling last year. It was good to catch up with old friends and make new ones, some which will be there next year and some that won't (Deborah, good luck with next year, hopefully see you out there.)

The fetival started off the same, regestring on Boxingday and attempting to do the first evenings dance even tho I hadn't danced for ages it was abit off a shock, the 2 left feet sorted them selves out eventually. The late nights which seem to play a big part in the Berea social scene started off on the first night with a small house party, a modest 2am finish which would only get later as the week progressed. The Whites party was as good as always (Thanks to the hosts for putting up woth us all again) 100's of people packed into a small wooden house trying to play music and dance the night away, an intresting sight. The floor wasn't bouncing as much this year with the Kerri sets, either we hadn't enough energy by that stage or the shoring up work must have done a-too-good-a-job.

I didn't try any morris dancing attempts this year but tried Appalchian Clog, Intermediate, I don't think I embarrased my self that much, being a complete begginer, as I managed to blend my self into the back ground with a very small roll in our perfomance, on New Years Eve, along with some very experienced people. I also attempted Kentucky Set Running, by the end of the week I could actually interprit the very strong mountain accent and work out what most things were, or through a combination of guess work and guidence from othersin the set, end up where I was suppossed to be. Kerri Sets was the best session, escpcialy when everyone was going in the same direction and not crashing, to much. Obviously the right partner was a big help, (leg lengths (Rachel) 

I started the week off tired and jet lagged but some how by breakfast time new years day I was still wide a wake, (that can't be said for last year where I was asleep standing up). Most people had gone to bed by that time tho and those that were still at the house party were fast asleep on the soafers, so no more dancing and off to bed my self. The signs of a good festival.

I packed up my things for the years adventures and left a bag with Dad and Pa to take back with them, Hopefully I will see it again in time for next years Christmas School, Which is the aim for next year. I managed to get a ride to Cinncinati with Catherine Kohn (thank you) and back to a motel for the night before the flight to Beijing the next day.
