Puno, and lake Titikaka

Text written in: English

Puno is the main city to have access to the famous TIiticaca lake, and a few of the islands on this lake to visit
appart from the "Uros", kind of "heritage park" of Peru!, worth visiting, anyway you stop there on the way to other islands!!

after "2 days in the canyon", here are "2 days on the islands", with a small tour on Amantani and Taquile Islands, with an overnight stay in families on Amantani..
one of the best sight of Peru there...

Puno seems not very interesting, but there are quite a few good restaurants there!!

food!

on Jiron Lima of course ,but all the streets around are full of good surprises!
ok,here is an advise i should have put earlier, but anyway...
always aks for the menu!! as a tourist (yes, anything you could do wouldn"t change the fact that you look and are a tourist!!), the waiter will always give you the card!! and sometimes there is even a 'touristic" menu, which is of course more expensive, and also too much food you want to eat!!
so economic menu could be enough and usually the menu is at the price of a single course!

La Casona :good, menu 15 soles
Don Piero (at night), ok, but i didn"t like the way the music band is doing (just business there!)

Casa de corregidor (plaza de arma, next to the cathedral), lovely and fair trade bar and restaurant!

Balcones de Puno, one of the best!! nice, good music band (more like students playing to pay their studies..)good alpaga!! (not the usual flat steack!)

if you want cheap food, try the central market

art market is now at the "harbor" but if you go on the islands, same stuff and you will better help the islanders this wa

LAKE TITICACA

Here, i would recommand the 2 days trip to Amantani and Taquile islands, with a stop at the Uros floating islands...
we took the trip at our hostal, which was thru CUsi expeditions (All ways travel and Edgar Adventure were on the same trip, so obviously working with this same company!), 50 soles for all!!
guide (english, spanish), boat trip, entrance fees included (like 1 usd for each island!), one night in a small village at locals, almost all meals (ok ,locals too!), but cheap and not worth doing it on your own!! especially Amantani island, there is only one place the local boat is going ,to the main communities, where there are 5 villages, and with our trip we went to a much more quiet place to the other side of the island!!
ok, not that there are a lot of tourists there, but this was a very nice trip, and a very interesting to live  a part of the life of the islanders!

trip is stoping one hour on the Uros island, quite touristic (like "heritage park " in the states or Canada), interesting but 1 hours is enough to see all!
then, 3 hours boat to Amantani, meeting with your family (2 to 4 persons in a family), a small hike on top of the hills (pacha mama and pachapapa), then diner at your family (very simple but ok), and after diner, small "party" in the community room with music and dances, a must do!!

if you like to wake up early, you can hike again in the morning for a quiet and peaceful view on the lake from the top of the island!!(that"s when i did the best pictures!)

then you leave in the morning to Taquile, 1hour usually, hike from one side to the middle of the island, easy hike (but at 3850 mhigh, nothing is so easy!), and then a small lunch before getting back down 500stairs to the boat!!
the ride back is a little dull (4 hours boat), but can be a good rest too!!

the lake is usually very flat, just a little shaky between the two islands in the morning

weather was , let"s say, cold, but sunny during the day, so it was almost too warm on the boat!! and careful of the sun!! elevation and reflection of the lake are very harmful!!

then , when you come back to the crazy life of Puno (compare to the islands of course), you just want to leave from there!!
