My Grandfather's Favorite City

Text written in: English

We arrived at the train station a few hours late. Our host was there waiting with one of the smallest four door cars I have ever seen!  He knew there were five of us coming, but what he did not realize was that we had at least two bags each. So we filled the trunk, and no the trunk could not close, and squeezed into the car, on each others laps, for a long, uncomfortable, yet fun ride to a small village on the outskirts of Taromina.

Sicily is different than mainland Italy in many ways, the food is one of the most noticeable.  We had fabulous food at a local restaurant and had fun trying to converse with the fast talking waitress and cook.  We woke up in the morning to an extremely bitter and strong coffee, a wide array of sweet pastries, and spreads, and a gorgeous view of Mt. Etna smoking.
Taromina was my grandfathers favorite city in Sicily, we all could see why. It is a beautiful city, situated on top of a cliff which overlooks the beaches and islands below. We wandered the narrow cobblestone streets eating Sicilian foods, shopping and just enjoying the slow paced feel of the city.
