So finally after 7 months, the travels finally end, but what a place to finish. Rio really is an astounding city with a beautiful location with lots of hills and islands. I was nervous before arriving, given the dangerous reputation but ended up having a great time.
I stayed in Santa Theresa, which is the bohemian district, and could not have spent it anywhere better. The area was serviced by a tram (locals call it the bongy), where you can hang off the sides and travel for free. At the weekend, all the artists had open doors to their studios, so there was a great vibe. Also we stayed with friends of friends and so got a great insight in the local life, which made the experience so much better. Throw in the favellas down the road, with the intermittment gun shots, it was a fabulous place to stay.
I also did the main tourist things such as Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Unfortunately, I did not have great weather so sunbathing wasn't an option. But watching the locals play football skills and foot volleyball was cool. And there were great waves for surfing.
I also went to the Christ staute. I waited and waited for good weather but it never came so I went anyway ansdstruggled to see the statue even when I was next to it. But as part of the tour, we went to another view point, Dona Marta which had great views of Rio.
So that's the end of the Brazil adventure. The danger aspect meant I didn't enjoy it as much as the rest but it was still great. There were some really friendly people, and the food was good but increased my chances of a heart attack severely (they love to fry). I will never forget the divine fruit juices and how cheap they were. But Brazil is massive and you need much more time to explore, so I will have to come back. One day...
