Getting off our bus amd being dropped on the corner of small town is always exciting. When it's 40 degrees that adds a little excitement, and walking around for two hours in that heat while trying to find any hotel that is still open is really shitty! Omoa was once a small but happening little beach town. We heard from our stupid guide book (LP) that it was a nice getaway amd tonnes of things to do. Well, they did have an old fort...that was one thing, other than that, the town is near dead...hotels are rundown or locked at the gates, and what was open seemed a little pricey..haha...the first hotel (the fisherman)..was abou 40 US dollars, but that comes with skeeters, and quite possibly a near dead fisherman in it....I couldn't quite put my finger on the smell....but it smells like a rip off.
We just couldn't bare the thought of wasting more than the hour needed to see the Fort and stick around in the town after being spoiled for the last month or so on pristine beachs and exciting little towns. It makes me wonder what happens to these places when it's obvious that it should be a gem, when in fact it has become sooo spooky.
Now to the bus ride!
This day was ...ummm..neat. We turned a 2 hour bus day into a 13 hour journey to Guatamala. 7 modes of transportation, and two baleadas (soft taco) later, two very depleated humans later we landed in Rio Dulce.
