Bano in spanish is "toilet"....I found it very strange that they would name a city after a bathroom but Hey!, it doesn`t have to make sense. 

Banos is this little gem of a city, at a point of entry for the jungle and situated only mere miles from an active volcano.  I later thought to myself that it was named banos after the first eruption occured and all the local people probably screamed "shit!"....heyyyoooo!

  The truth is, this little city is famous for its thermal spas that are scattered around the area, two of which are major attractions.  What better way to spend your afternoon, with a bunch of old naked people, while listening to the pop of the nearby Vesuvius. It was a great few days, we managed a great hike and I set off on a mountain bike for a day.
