More Wineries and Desert

Text written in: English

We came here for the wineries, and let me tell you, it is no Mendoza, Argentina here.  Let me give you one tip...if anyone offers you wine from Ica, just smile politely and say no thank you.  I think Carey and I wished we would have known that :)  Ahh, it wasn't that bad....

Carey has had his heart set on trying sandboarding ever since Arequipa...and all his previous attempts had been foiled (no boards to rent in Camana, and me refusing to climb 5 hours up a sand hill in plus 100 degrees celcius in Nazca for a 10 minute ride), it was time that he tried it.  So, we happily rented a board from a guy who was a smart businessman...he started off by trying to rent it to you for 3 hours, knowing full well there was no way the foreigners could stand that kind of heat for more than 10 minutes....ha ha!

Carey took off with a run up the sandhill, and by the top, he was walking, and by the time he got to me again at the bottom of the hill, he was sweating profusely and asking for sunscreen.  It was like watching a person melt...ha ha.  He was a good sport though...he stuck it out for an hour, and did quite well...others at the bottom with me were admiring his stamina and ability to withstand the feeling that your legs were melting where the sand was touching them as you sunk in as you walked to the top.  As for me, I was also impressed with his eagerness, as I could only bear to go up and down once...maybe some of the problem is that I laid down on the board (as I have no balance at all) which resulted is me filling all my clothes and eyes with sand which stuck to me.  I just wanted to go home and shower, and not run up the hill again for another go.

That is another tip we wish we had... try sandboarding again in the evening or early morning when the wax won't melt off in the first 10 feet of the ride...but we would recommend trying it, because it was fun when you got going!
