Carnaval Time !

The carnaval week in Salvador was amazing. The city is changing its face and turning into a huge party . The streets are colourful, the people are happy and the alcohol flows like a river.

We arrived to Salvador one day before the big mess, so we had enough time to prepare ourselves properly. We walked the streets and got to know this beautiful city.  although Salvador is huge (2.5 million people) The main carnaval takes place on relatively small area. The street that is nearest to the ocean is the chosen one, and every day at 16:00 the party begins, until the early morning.

One night we decided that in order to feel the carnaval spirit the way it should be felt, we have to buy the carnaval shirts. The colourful shirts are the tickets to the closed area that is near the huge trucks. If you don't buy the shirt (which is very expensive by the way) you have to enjoy the music from the street and you are not allowed to walk with the trucks. Every day the shirts change and the trucks are changed as well. The only thing that stays the same is the crazy atmosphere that goes around all day and all night. When the action starts you have to be there, celebrate, drink, and of course - dance !

On another day we went to another part of the city, ''the old city'' to participate in another kind of carnaval. That is what they told us....  The truth is that it is exactly the same but in another street. Of course we didn't give a shit and for us it was as good as the other party. Drink, dance and enjoy !

I know that most of the people don't know what carnaval is really like. Some of them are sure that it is like in Rio de Janeiro.  I can say that the carnaval in Salvador is way more exciting, thrilling and fun. You're actually in the middle of everything, dancing, drinking and having the time of your life...
