The Olympic Procession

The last weekend of the La Candelaria Festival is spent dancing in parades and competition.  Groups from all over Peru and neighboring countries come to perform and dance!  Anybody can enter - and all ages participate! 

On Saturday night, the groups parade through Puno without their costumes.  It reminded me of the opening of the Olympics with the Olympic processional of countries!  The groups would be led in by a flag bearer, then the dancers and the band.  It was so fun to watch and at times, fall in behind a group and dance with them for a while down the street!
