More of Buenos Aires

Text written in: English (US)

Refer back to the description of Buenos Aires in regards to some of the pictures you find here.

After Sue left, I had a couple of days before I left for Iguazu Falls, so I ventured to a couple of places we didn't have time for. One such place was the Recolleta Church and Monestary and the Recolleta Cemetery. The cemetery was quite spectacular with its above ground family cripes. The rich and famous of Buenos Aires, including Evita Peron, are buried here. It is quite a maze of streets and even though there were lots of people there, most of the time I was wandering around alone. Kind of eerie! I hoped I could find my way out!!! You could look into most of the cripes and actually see the coffins and personal memorabilia.

All over Buenos Aires, we ran into "dog walkers". Dog walking is a popular and respectable profession. Since most of the portenos live in apartments or homes with tiny courtyards, the dogs are walked in the many huge and beautiful parks. The dog walkers always have 5 or more dogs at a time. Guess the dogs not only get a walk, but also a little social time! Sometimes it was hard to determine who was getting walked!

One of the pictures here is a picture of a Volta Coffee shop. There is a Volta Coffee Shop on every corner. I took this for Marilyn to show her Argentina's version of Starbucks. Marilyn, you would be right at home here, just a block to coffee!

The other pictures here show the widest street in the world, the obelisk, the Botanical Gardens, the Japones Gardens and the Casa de Sol and Sobre bed and breakfast.

In Buenos Aires as well as every other Argentinean town, all the streets were in a grid pattern and were named for famous and historical people and dates. For example, there was always a San Martin, Mayo, Libertad, 5th de Abril, 20th de Junio, Belgrano, Sarmiento. It made it easy to get around, yet sometimes difficult to remember which town you were in and where you were staying!
