Feliz Ano Nuevo - 2007!

Text written in: English (US)

I can't believe 2006 is over and we are ushering in 2007!  Where did the year go?

On Saturday afternoon, we met some of Paola's friends at the Cafe for an early New Year's toast complete with champagne.  It is nice that her friends get together like that before they all get scattered for New Years.

On New Year's Eve, we went to Paola's friends', Pepe and Lydia's, house for a nice quiet dinner celebration.  As I mentioned before, everything starts late and goes late into the wee hours of the morning in Peru.  We went to their house around 11 PM and promptly at mid-night, we ate our 12 grapes and toasted champagne!  And then sat down for a lushious New Year's dinner midst the noise from the fireworks!

There are several traditions for New Years.  First of all, everything is yellow in color - the decorations, balloons, flowers, underwear...- for good luck.  You are supposed to wear your yellow "nickers" (underwear) and your yellow 2007 glasses which are sold on every street corner.  Precisely at mid-night, you are to eat 12 grapes to bring you good luck for the new year.  And, if you want to travel during the year, you are supposed to take a suitcase and walk around the block!  Interesting customs all over!

I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's celebration and that the new year brings you LOTS of love, joy, prosperity and blessings!
