We are leaving for the Refugio Altiplano in a few minutes. It is a 1.5 hour speed boat ride down the Amazon (6 hours by regular boat). Glad Scott has a speed boat! The Refugio is really in the jungle - supposed to be a jungle paradise with lots of wild animals (including ocelots and monkeys). It will be nice to get away from all the noise and back to just nature sounds! These cities are incredibly noisy all day and night!!!!!!! I can hardly hear or think!
We ate breakfast in a restaurant that reminded me of a fast food joint. Was decent food, though. Should have incredibly healthy food at the Refugio - yeh! We then went to the market to buy herbs and healing plant medicines for our ceremonies this week. The markets are wild - open air with booth after booth of stuff! Just like most 3rd world country markets. I am starting to feel more at ease walking through these as well as getting around towns. Am anxiously awaiting my download of Spanish, though. It would be nice to be fluent since English is not that common. It will come! Scott is from the US and the girls are from South Africa, so I will have English around this week.
I hope to have access to the Internet for a few minutes every couple of days while at the Refugio, so I'll work on getting this up to date, 'cuz much has happened so far.
