After the destruction my body experienced during Carnaval, it was off to Porto Seguro to relax a bit... Sort of. Actually, Porto Seguro's Carnaval starts a bit later and has lots of the big headline acts (including Fat Boy Slim) for a much smaller price. I arrived in time for the last night, but opted instead to cross the river to the town of Arriel D'Ajuda to relax a bit more instead.
What a good choice. In this small town was the best "por kilo" in Brazil (meaning the world). Por kilo is a very common way to eat in Brazil, and I had indeed been frequently them often. Basically, it's a big buffet, but instead of paying a one-off price all-you-can-eat, you collect your food and then weigh it, paying by the gram. Genius! You can eat as little or as much as you like and the price is fair. Only problem is, usually the food isn't so great. Not so in Arriel D'Ajuda! This por kilo had the dishes floating in a steam bath and they were great. I think I ate there every day I stayed there - about four nights in the end - much needed relaxation.
Err... Almost. My first night there, I slept for 15 hours straight. Which should have got me back in order after Carnaval. However, it was to be a big party night the second night and yet again I saw the sun come up. Oops!
