Back in Pucallpa

We came back to Pucallpa for supplies and to give my skin a rest. The insect bites are competing for space with the freckles on my body. Fortunately there is a lovely plat call Pion here that soothes and heals insect bites. If I could develop mosquito repellent that is effective against jungle mosquitos and insects I will make a lot of money.

I am currently learning how to conduct an Awasca ceremony and also taking some plants of course. I am also learning some of Cezar and Angel's Icaros in Shipibo. It is great. Some of Cezar's patients arrives every day for healing and it is quite amazing to watch. Cezar lives in Pucallpa, so most of the patieints arriving are his.

20 September: We also saw Milke, the Meraya again. He is very nice and paints beautifully. He allowed me to use some of his paint and paper to paint one of my visions. I enjoyed it tremendously. I think I should buy some paint and paint brushes. He also has his own band and they are recording their first CD this month. I haven't heard his music yet, but he will play it to me tomorrow. There are no words to describe his Icaros so I am sure his band will sound phenominal.

21 September: Tonight we have another Ayawasca ceremony. Last night an old Maestro, Maestro Jose, joined us in the ceremony. He must be in his eighties or nineties. Well I seem to be using the word amazing quite a lot but that is what it is. He said that he willt ransfer some icaros to me tonight. Sounds interesting.

I bought a Shipibo-Spanish dictionary, as well as a spanish manual that teaches shipibo today. Pretty cool. We are going to write a dictionary for shaman terminology in shipibo since none exist. That will be fantastic. The shamans use different shipibo words in their icaros and healing from that used daily in shipibo life. Such a dictionary will help many, many shamans and ensure that the knowledge is not lost. The dicitonary will be translated to spanish, english and afrikaans. Cool. Furthermore they are recording icaros of different maestros on audio tape for me. That is very cool and will ensure that I don't get withdrawal systems when I come back to South Africa.

I always have an excourt wherever I go. Alberto and Douglas are my bodyguards when I go into town. They keep me compnay on trips to town, ensure that I am safe, manage in the shops and find the best spots to buy things. Alberto and Douglas are 26 and 17 respectively. They have a great sense of humour and infinte patience. We have a lot of fun.
