9/10 August
Re-entered Brazil and stayed at Foz do Iguacu, the town for the Iguacu Falls. The falls were spectular but somewhat disappointing at the same time. The site has 275 different waterfalls but it appears the effects of global warming is having a dire impact on the region. This year, the region had an unusually dry rainy season and as such the falls are probably at a fifth of its capacity. Despite this, the falls are impressive, particularly on the Argentinian side, which I recommend to do as you are right next to the falls and you get a sense of its power and size. Because of the low water the boat trip was a waste of time as it couldn't get near the falls which it was suppose to do. So I spend alot of money to get to see the falls from 1km away. For people travelling here later in the year, I recommend that you don't do this until after next year rainy season as the conditions are likely to get worse.
Although viewing the falls from the Brazilian side is further away it is worth doing to get a distant view of the falls. Visited an amazing bird park on the Brazilian side where you enter massive aviaries and the birds are all around you. Excellent photo opportunites of exotic birds, particularly the parrots and the tucans.
The falls are worth visiting as it is a natural wonder - that's another tick I have on the 100 things to do before you die.
