An Extra Day in Barcelona

Text written in: English

I decided to stay one more day in this ever fascinating city by the sea.  I just can't help myself.  It must be the museums, the people watching, the street performers, the sites, the sounds, the art, missing the train.

All packed and someplace to go; I missed read my ticket and showed up at 10:05pm for my train which decided not to wait for me.  How rude!!!  Of course, the easiest thing to do would have been to buy a ticket for the next night's train, except that the ticket office closed at 10:00pm.  They would tell me that there was exactly 1 inexpensive bed available and if I showed up at 6:30 in the am, I might have a chance of buying it.  If not, time to fork over quite a bit more.

Actually as I sit here, I am not sure what ticket I bought.  Barely awake, I stumbled into the station, mumbled something to the attendent, gave him my credit card and vacated the premises in a faint hope of finding the 40 Euro Hostel I happened to find late the evening before.  My bed was a callin, and I just woke up, showered and packed in time to make my exit at exactly noon (no extra charge).

So, what was the game plan today.  I went out to a different part of town and had a choice.  The Barcelona Soccer Stadium lived in the area and closed at 2:00.  I would make it by 1:30, and need to pay 5.50 Euros for thirty minutes of seeing the stadium and browing the museum of the famous Barcelona soccer team.  Or, I could slide on over to the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Ceramics in the same building, FREE on Sunday.

The two museums were not too bad.  I am not whay you would call a ceramics person, but I enjoyed the older stuff that came from churches and homes, the panels with scenes much more than the modern art.  Some were simply nice vases, while others were very strange difficult to describe pieces (Picasso and Miro were of course represented).

Hopefully, I will make the train tonight.  Although there is at least one monument that I haven't seen here, the homage to the ever just late or just on time traveller.
