So the reason we were travelling so fast up Colombia was because we were dying to see our good Peace Boat buddy from Medellin, Maria. It was soooo fantastic to see her again and meeting her family and friends was just amazing. Everyone was soooooooo lovely.
The first morning Maria took us to her work and we met everyone there. She then got us into the Museo de Antioquia for free and we had a look around at awesome Fernando Boteros art work. While we were there we noticed groups of high school girls following us around the gallery. One group finally plucked up enough courage to ask us where we were from and after that we had the whole class crowded around us very excited to be talking to us! It was quite amazing and reminded me so much of being an English teacher at Elementary School in Japan, we were the stars! Finally after the gallery person had to keep telling us to be quiet, their teacher dragged them away! In the afternoon we rode the metro and went up a gondola which is also part of the metro system and had a very similar experience with 2 young girls. They changed lines so they could sit in the same gondola as us and even told the ticket lady we were a group of 4 so we could sit together! It was really so cute.
The time we spent with Maria and her family was the best. We ate so many different Colombian fruits, we got our haircuts, we went out on the town one night, attended family dinners, went on a bike tour around Medellin with Marias friend and even made sushi together!
When the weekend came we drove out to Marias dads farm. I could have stayed there forever. It was so peaceful and beautiful out there, it reminded me of NZ a lot. Such good times.
