We have been here a couple of days now, and we are so relieved that it hasn't rained, whereas the locals are wondering why on earth the monsoon rains have not arrived yet? Yesterday we had a trip of a lifetime aboard a jet ferry on the reef, and had a few chances to jump off the boat to snorkle. I have to say that this was probably one of the most amazing experinces I have ever had, and was reluctant to leave that beautiful world. Since we arrived in Oz, all we seemed to hear about was stingrays and sharks but once down there the underwater world seems so innocent and harmless, even though I know it is more like deadly!!! The nice thing for us was the boat was half empty which meant the crew paid us a lot more attention, and spent heaps of time explaining about the different fish we would encounter, and what life would be like if you were part of that unknown world. Jason seemed in his element, as he dived and swam around like a dolphin in and out of the reefs, swimming between tropical fish of all shapes sizes, colours and species.
The resort we are staying on is in the middle of the rainforest, set on the beach, in a national park. I suppose you couldn't beat the feeling of escapism if you tried. The staff here are wonderful, the food is prepared by a Hawain lady (out of this world), and there is a spa Jacuzzi and huge swimming pool. Today we were lucky enough to have sunshine, which has been significantly lacking the past few weeks, so spent some time topping up our tan before we return to the Old smoke (Sydney).
Tomorow will be more exploring as we head up to Karunda, a community on the hillside nearby in the rainforest. You can either take the cable car or the old railway up to the top, and then you can walk some of the different rainforest walks nearby. I think we will stop by the wildlife rescue centre on the way back, to see some more Roos, Kualas and perhaps Wallybies!!! Monday it is all go once again as we head back for Sydney and more into our new appartment, I feel although it has been an incredible journey so far, it will be nice to stop and get settled into our flat and a rountine for a while again.
