After our flight getting cancelled and notice that our bags would be lost when we arrived in Lima I was not in the best of moods when finally arrived but after something short of a miracle our bags made it and some nice man was waiting for us to drive us to our hotel for the night. We are staying in Miraflores, the nicer part of Lima right outside the city in a nice hotel that gives me my own bed and shower and coffee when I wake up. After sleeping the night away we met our nice tour guide for a personalized tour of the city. We drove along the beach and through the rich neigborhoods and then finally downtown to find all the activity. The streets were fairly deserted as everyone in Peru was watching the world cup finals. I apoligized for making her miss the finals. Luckily on every street corner we could catch a glimpse of the game through the crowd. Here we saw all the big important buildings and learned all about the history. This place is old! My favorite part was visiting the catacombs underneath the main church in town where over 25,000 people were buried. Very very cool but not allowed to take pictures. Oh well. The whole city has the Spanish accents with mosiac tiles everywhere and bright colors on every building. The city was impressive but very smoggy and overcast the whole day. Not bad I guess for the middle of winter. To top it off Steph and I had a delicious dinner overlooking the ocean for under $10! Next stop is la selva and a 4am wakeup call. Hope all is well!
