Home to San Francisco, my home town!

Text written in: English

It took three flights and one bus trip to get home, but we made it.  The first leg was a short hop from Iguassu back to Sao Paulo.  Under Jerry's expert guidance (follow me!) we were the last people to fit onto the air-conditioner shuttle bus which took us on an hour-long ride from the domestic terminal to the international terminal.  We looked out at the massive city one last time in the red light of the setting sun and felt some ambivalence about leaving.  As Jesse said, "For some reason, Brazil is a she, and I never really got to know her."  So there's good reasons to return.  The international terminal was again like a zoo, but we passed some time in a "pay-by-kilo" restaurant, using up all our remaining Reals.  Then, we had an overnight flight to Dallas-Fort Worth.  Our pilot did a good job at getting us in early at 5:30 a.m., but we weren't allowed to get off the plane until the customs officials arrived at 6:00.  After coming from the cautious but courteous airlines of Brazil, we were struck by the rudeness and controlling attitudes of American flight attendants and security personnel.  Nonetheless, it was good to be home again, even with 100 degree temperatures in the Bay Area.  Too bad we couldn't bring some of the balmy Brazilian beaches with us!
