July 26th
Today is Independance Day (from the Spanish, around 1820) in Peru... large noisy parades, fireworks, gunfire, and entertainment all day so Cusco is alive with sounds and music. Great atmosphere. Called into Peru Treks office to thank them for a job well done, updated BoD, and arranged a taxi for 4.30am to take me to the airport (10 miles away) tomorrow morning (6Soll) ... remember 5Solls to the Pound. Ran the badgering gauntlet of the 6 ladies who sit up the steps to my hostel, thePiccola Laconda selling thier whares. I have bought something from each of them over the days (total spend 25Soll (£5). ,but they would not give up so I emptied the last of my toffees over them, big smiles all round. Its now 8pm, with a huge full moon illuminating the terraccotta roof tiles of Cusco. I'm going in to have one of Lorenzo's great pasta dishes, garlick bread, a glass of vino rouge, one of Katerins bright green Mint Liqures, and go to bed. I'm wacked! Tomorrow I go home to another world that's worlds apart from this one ...but looking forward to seeing Dawn and Susie and boring them with my adventures!
Must go as Katerin is calling to say my fresh pasta is ready ...Chow .. Buenos nochus.
